The “Front Porch Living” community of Oakland Park, situated on Winter Garden’s western border, has been approved to add 142 new homesites over 2 new phases.  One Hundred & Four homesites will be situated within Winter Garden, and for the first time this community will move into the borders of the town of Oakland.  Thirty Eight of the new homes will fall in the town of Oakland with future development of this community also expected to take place within the small town.  Over time Oakland Park will encompass 820 homes, more than double the number of homes currently built in the community.

The small town of Oakland neighbors Winter Garden to the west.  It was established in 1887.  According to OaklandFL.gov, “years ago Oakland was a major center of commerce with a thriving downtown that boasted an opera house and a number of commercial establishments. Unfortunately, due to fires the downtown was decimated and never rebuilt. Today, Oakland is a diverse, thriving and growing small community noted for its laid-back lifestyle and majestic oak trees.”

The developers of Oakland Park are quoted as saying:

“We are very excited to not only deliver new homesites in Oakland Park, but to begin our expansion into the town of Oakland as well.  Oakland Park is an iconic, irreplaceable community and we are thrilled we now have new homesites available for our builders and for future residents. Interest in the community has remained high despite the lack of new home inventory in Oakland Park, and delivery of these new phases will quickly initiate new home construction.”

Oakland Park offers distinctive architecture, consisting primarily of Craftsman Style homes.  The community professes to be all about “Front Porch Living” and a drive through the Oakland Park shows it with large porches and towering live oaks.  The West Orange Trail passes through the center of the community giving residents access to miles of trail for jogging or bike riding.  Amenities in the neighborhood include two resort-style pools, a clubhouse, & playground, as well as numerous parks and trails along Lake Apopka.
